The NBA Student Chapter is a recent initiative within the organization, designed to be an inclusive, service-oriented organization within a college music department. Mark Heidel has organized a very successful chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and is the national point person for this concept.

Starting an NBA Student Chapter

Tim Baumann is a senior instrumental music education major at the
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he studies the oboe and piano.
During his time at Eau Claire, Tim has served as treasurer and secretary
in the local Collegiate Music Educators National Conference Chapter and
was most recently elected to the position of President for the UW-Eau
Claire National Band Association Chapter. Tim has also held the position
of Student Representative to the Wisconsin Advocates of Music Education
Board, a group that works to advocate the importance of music in schools
through various political and media related avenues.

Tim performs regularly with the UW-Eau Claire Wind Symphony and he
was the Drum Major of the Blugold Marching Band for two years. He has
also performed with the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, University
Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra at Eau Claire. During the summer
months, Tim works as a Dean at the International Music Camp at the
International Peace Gardens on the North Dakota/ Manitoba border. He is
also on staff with the River Falls High School Marching Wildcats as a
marching technician.



Stephen Pratt is Director of Bands at Indiana University where he conducts
the Wind Ensemble and teaches graduate wind conducting courses in the
Jacobs School of Music.

In demand as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator of wind bands
and orchestras across the country, he was honored as a faculty member of
the highest distinction in 1988 by the combined honor societies on campus.
Professor Pratt is recipient of the Distinguished Service to Music medal
awarded by Kappa Kappa Psi, the national collegiate band honorary
organization. He has also been honored with the Outstanding Bandmaster
award, Gamma chapter (Indiana) of Phi Beta Mu, 1998, and the Outstanding
University Music Educator award, Indiana Music Educators Association
(IMEA), 2001.

He is a Past President of the College Band Directors National Association
North Central Division and Past President of the Indiana Bandmasters
Association. Mr. Pratt is an elected member of the American Bandmasters
Association as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the National
Band Association, where he serves as College/University Representative.
Professor Pratt is music director/conductor emeritus of the Bloomington
Symphony Orchestra.
