Hall Of Fame Of Distinguished Band Conductors

The National Band Association established the Hall of Fame of Distinguished Band Conductors on the campus of Troy State University, Troy, Alabama in 1979. It is housed in a magnificent facility made available by Troy State University through the efforts of Dr. John Long, Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences and Director of Bands, together with Dr. Ralph Adams, President of the University.

The Hall of Fame building is open to visitors without charge daily from 9:00 to 4:00 p.m. It is also open prior to and immediately following concert events on the Troy State campus. Nomination to the Hall of Fame is open to all persons who have reached the age of 65 and who have particularly distinguished themselves as conductors in the band field. Download a Nomination Form

The installation of the first class took place on February 2, 1980. At that time the following persons were inducted into the Hall of Fame of Distinguished Conductors:

Cmdr. Charles Brendler
Capt. Howard Bronson
Mr. Herbert Clarke
Mr. Patrick Conway
Dr. Henry Fillmore
Mr. Pat Gilmore
Mr. E.F. Goldman
Dr. A.A. Harding
Mr. Karl King
Col. Sam Loboda
Mr. A.R. McAllister
Mr. Arthur Pryor
Capt. W.H. Santelmann
Dr. Frank Simon
Mr. John Philip Sousa

The second class to be installed was the first class of living band conductors. The ceremony took place on January 31, 1981 at the Hall of Fame. Inducted were:

Dr. James Neilson
Dr. William D. Revelli

The third ceremony, on February 6, 1982 installed Col. George S. Howard.

The fourth ceremony, on February 5, 1983 installed:

Dr. Merle Evans
Mr. Ernest Williams
Dr. Mark Hindsley
Mr. Charleton Stewart

The fifth ceremony, on February 4, 1984 installed:

Dr. Leonard Falcone
Dr. D.O. Wiley
 

The sixth ceremony, on February 2, 1985 installed Raymond Dvorak.

The seventh ceremony, on February 8, 1986 installed:

Mr. Nilo Hovey
Dr. Al G. Wright
 

The eighth ceremony, on February 7, 1987 installed Dr. Frederick C. Ebbs.

The ninth ceremony, on February 3, 1990 installed:

Dr. Frederick Fennell
Dr. Paul Yoder
Dr. Robert Hawkins
Lt. Col. William F. Santelmann

The tenth ceremony, on February 1, 1992 installed Col. Arnald Gabriel.

The eleventh ceremony on February 5, 1994 installed:

Dr. W J Julian
Dr. Harry Begian
Mr. Frank (Francesco) Nicolo Mancini

The twelfth ceremony on February 3, 1996 installed Dr. John Long.

The thirteenth ceremony on February 6, 1999 installed:

Mrs. Gladys Stone Wright
Mr. William P. Foster
 

The fourteenth ceremony on February 3, 2001 installed Col. John Bourgeois.

The fifteenth ceremony on February 1, 2003 installed Mr. Kenneth Bloomquist.

The sixteenth ceremony on February 7, 2004 installed:

Dr. James Croft
Col. Hal Gibson
 


The seventeenth ceremony on February 4, 2006 installed Robert E. Foster.

The eighteenth ceremony on February 2, 2008 installed:

Mr. Edward S. Lisk
Dr. Donald E. McGinnis
