2004 Biennial Convention

•  The 2006 NBA National Biennial Convention was held on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois in conjunction with the Bands of America Summer Symposium. Dates for the event were June 21-23. To read Immediate Past President David Gregory's convention wrap-up, click here.
   
•  The NBA National Community Band was conducted by Lowell Graham. The band presented its finale concert on Sunday afternoon, July 23rd at 3:00 P.M. on the campus of UNLV.
   
•  The 2006 Young Composer Mentor Project featured nationally known composers Mark Camphouse, Julie Giroux , and James Curnow . For more information on this project click here.
   
•  A newly added event for the 2004 convention was the NBA Young Conductor Mentor Project. Organized by Paula Crider, this project featured Tom Fraschillo, Jim Keene, and Frank Wickes as mentor conductors. In addition, the conductor mentees joined the composer mentees in a special YCMP Concert where the young conductors presented in concert the works of the young composers chosen for this program.
   
•  Through special arrangements, Dr. Frederick Fennell served as Guest Artist in Residence/Master Mentor for both YCMP events, as well as for other selected clinics during the week.
   
•  The featured military band for the 2004 convention was the United States Air Force Band of Mid America, conducted by Lt. Colonel Steve Grimo. The AFBMA served as clinic and host band for the YCMP workshop and, in addition, presented a special convention concert on Tuesday evening in the ISU Braden Auditorium, housed in the Bone Student Center.
   
•  The Saitama Sakae High School Symphonic Winds of Saitama, Japan was featured in the finale concert on Wednesday evening of the convention in the ISU Braden Auditorium, housed in the Bone Student Center. This concert was part of the Saitama international tour especially designed around the 2004 NBA Convention.
   
•  Special clinics at the 2004 biennial convention were presented by:

•  NBA members were offered to attend a tour of the John Philip Sousa Museum housed in the A.A. Harding Band Building at the University of Illinois. The tour was sponsored by the University of Illinois Bands and was coordinated by Jim Keene.
