News of InterestINTERNATIONAL CONDUCTORS SYMPOSIUM 2007 – UKAugust 5-12, 2007 CANFORD SUMMER SCHOOL OF MUSIC Sherborne School–Sherborne, Dorset, UK ** This event is for NBA Members who are full-time Graduate Students in Music Education or Conducting ** The National Band Association’s 2007 International Conducting Symposium will be held at the Canford Summer School of Music on the campus of Sherborne School in the United Kingdom during the week of August 5 – 12, 2007. ICS 2007–UK will be held in conjunction with the Canford Summer School of Music’s “Wind Band Conductor’s Course” with Timothy Reynish, Phillip Scott and Mark Heron. This summer’s event will be hosted by NBA International Division Chair, Timothy Reynish, and is open to all NBA members who are full-time graduate students in the field of music education or conducting (not open to applied instrumental students). This joint project of the NBA and the Canford Summer School of Music is made possible through support from the international relations office of our board of directors. Graduate students interested applying for this expense-paid week of study in the UK should submit application packets to: Dr. David Gregory National Band Association ICS Chair 10313 Big Canoe (U. S. Postal Address) or 1225 Indigo Bunting Trail (Ground shipment––FedEx, DHL, etc). Big Canoe, GA 30143 Application Packet Should Include: 1) Recent video or DVD recording of applicant conducting representative literature samples. Recording should be made with applicant conducting college/university ensemble where graduate work is being undertaken. 2) Three letters of recommendation, one of which is from the supervising professor. Others may come from peers, previous supervisors, associates, or those who are acquainted with the applicant’s musical and artistic abilities. 3) A written analysis of one of the selections presented on the video/DVD recording. The analysis is to be done by the applicant and should reflect scholarly and academic writing skills of that person. The analysis should be no longer than five thousand (5000) words and should be submitted in word format using “times” size 12 font. 4) Resumé of applicantApplications must be postmarked by June 15, 2007 in order to be considered. Two NBA members who are graduate students will be chosen for this special summer study opportunity. Note: submitted application materials will not be returned.
