SOUSA ON THE STRIP
(What happened in Las Vegas, stayed in Las Vegas!)
Musicians from nineteen states and Canada joined famed conductor “John
Philip Sousa,” aka Robert E. (Bob) Foster, for a sold-out, packed house
concert on the campus of UNLV this past July. The event was so successful,
we even turned people away at the door.
Rehearsals began at 7:00 pm on Friday, July 21st and ended with a 3:00 pm
concert on Sunday, July 23rd. Everything was held on the campus of the
University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Special thanks go to Tom Leslie and Tony
LaBounty, our UNLV hosts, for use of their equipment and facilities.
Bob Foster made a very convincing Sousa, as you can see in the pictures.
Bob is Professor of Music, and Assistant Chairman of the Department of
Music and Dance at the University of Kansas. He is also the conductor of
the award winning Lawrence City Band in Lawrence, Kansas. He served as
Director of Bands at the University of Kansas from 1971 to August 2002.
The NBA would like to publicly thank outgoing NBA Community Band Chair,
Gerald Guilbeaux. Gerald served NBA in this position for eight years. An
insurance agent, Gerald has his own adult band in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Thank you, Gerald, for four tremendous NBA National Community Bands during
your tenure!
We'd also like to thank Yamaha and Conn-Selmer for their contribution to
the event.
You can view the program here.
