Young Composer/Conductor Mentor Project, 2004

Special thanks to Lt. Col. Steven Grimo, Commander/Conductor of The US Air Force Band of Mid-America and the superb men and women in that splendid ensemble for their valuable contributions to our country and to music education in the best and broadest sense. They will be providing their talents to make this project possible.

The structure of the project for 2004 will be as follows:

AGORA (duration 4 minutes) by St. Olaf College undergraduate student composer Carl Schroeder has been assigned to conductor Andre Feagin, an undergraduate at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Principal conducting mentor for Andre will be Dr. Thomas Fraschillo, Director of Bands, University of Southern Mississippi.

HARVEST MOON (duration 7 minutes) by Illinois State University undergraduate student composer Roy Magnuson has been assigned to conductor Brian Dell, a graduate conducting assistant at Louisiana State University. Principal conducting mentor for Roy will be Prof. James Keene, Director of Bands, University of Illinois.

TRINITAS (duration 9 minutes) by Radford University undergraduate student composer Daniel Boothe has been assigned to conductor Travis Cross, a high school band director in Edina, Minnesota. Principal conducting mentor for Travis will be Prof. Frank Wickes, Director of Bands, Louisiana State University.

Composer mentors will be Mark Camphouse, Donald Grantham, and Dana Wilson.
